A design i've been working on since last month for 2020, the Year of the rat. i made it based off of the personality traits, "Their personality is kind, but due to weak communication skills, their words may seem impolite and rude." so i created a rat with two sides, one who is more cute and likable, and another that comes off as rude and impolite.

after several color palettes and redesigns, i scrapped the outlines, and made the colors that of the festive colors of Chinese New Year. the slit with the background was to help give emphasis to the chipped ear, but that just came off as cheese.

eventually, i scrapped the background, did without the 2020, and enlarged some of the text & lines in the work, making what i like to call the "Neapolitan Rat".

while this work was to commemorate the year of 2020, i thought going without a set year wouldn't date the piece as much.
